The Director Leonard Menchiari has been experiencing this form of protest in person, and the game “Riot” was born as a way to express it and to tell the stories of these fights. What is that triggers such a strife? What does a cop feel during the conflict? In “Riot”, the player will experience both sides of a fight in which there is no such thing as “victory” or “defeat”.” Via/Via

Vincent Wilkie, The Legion of Real Life Supervillains:

Some might say all art is a reflection of the times we live in.If back in the day comics and movies were pretty naive and faced only as pure escapism, today’s fiction has to evoke reality to create something truly meaningful… and frightening. This series is an experiment where a dictator, a psycho, a murderer (sometimes they are the whole package) or even a suspicious figure from real life is mashed with a comics bad guy – strangely related some way or the other with his counterpart. The depressing thing? Realising that if the comic book supervillains were actually the ones threatening real life, the world wouldn’t be such a bad place.

Low Lai Chow, Man feeds swans, starkly poetic picture goes viral. But what about the ducks?:

Polish photographer Marcin Ryczek was in Krakow when he saw a guy feeding swans and ducks. The sheer beauty of the stark contrast between his dark figure against the snow-covered land, and between the white swans against the dark waters and er, dark ducks, has led to this picture surfacing everywhere on the Internet and shared like crazy. Everyone seems not to notice that these swans seem a bit of a bully with their duck-nudging tactics. Apparently the swans in Britain aren’t the nicest birds around either.

Needs is the dreamy new mixtape from San Francisco producer Giraffage, out today on Alpha Pup. This is warped and emotive sample-based pop at its finest, as evidenced by tape highlight “All That Matters,” which should achieve ubiquitous end-of-the-night 2013 prom jam status based on the strength of its perfect, pitched-down “Love You Down” sample. The area that surrounds Athens is composed by a clumsy controversy, as the vast urban surface meets with the countryside.
All of the photographs of the ‘In Landscapes’ series by Petros Koublis were made less than 50 km away from the heart of Athens, a city that today tries to carry the weight of its own existence, surrounded by the prolonged silence of the old olive groves, the vineyards, or the sea. There is no beauty that is timeless but the timelessness of nature can reflect a new direction, maybe even a hope. It’s not a blissful silence but it’s an inspiring one.

English abstract: Street artist Mobstr. is playing with the buff men and the city officials again. This time he tells a little buff story.

The series ‘Die Milchbriefe’ by Sarah Steffen, a graduate of the ‘Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie’ in Berlin, deals with the falsification of our memory as an unconsciously transformation of our minds. Thereby Steffen confronts herself with her own past and the extent to which we can actually trust our own memories. Did I really experienced this, or is my experience overlaid with collective impressions, films and stories I’ve been told? Who can be actually sure about this? Thus ‘Milchbriefe’ serve as letters from our subconsciousness, as a transmitter of memories into the present.

If there's one thing the Netherlands is famous for, it's tulips. Photographer Normann Szkop has documented the colorful fields of Anna Paulowna, a town at the northern tip of the country's North Holland region. To capture the 100-plus image set, Szkop took to the skies, revealing the millions of flowers that dot the landscape, forming an enormous patchwork quilt of color. Claython Pender, the pilot that helped the photographer to capture the aerial images, documents the journey on his personal blog, and Szkop has uploaded all the photos to Flickr.

“Porn SFW is a collection of previoulsy NSFW adult photos re-wroked to become worksafe porn pictures. This isn’t a site we recomend surfing from work but these pictures used to be explicit and now and safe for work porn pictures. Hence Porn that is now SFW. We think these SFW Porn pics are funny as hell but then again we have a strange sense of humor”

Dan McPharlin is an Australian artist who creates works which transport you through time and space. With a great talent for layering, McPharlin is clearly inspired by the future, space and geometric shapes. McPharlin also dips his toes into the world of album art, working with musicians such as Pretty Lights, The Sword and Dylan Ettinger. We’d recommend spinning Jeff Wayne’s War Of The Worlds while looking through these pieces.

Carrie Battan and Amy Phillips, J Dilla's Personal Record Collection Being Auctioned Off on eBay Piece by Piece:

Last spring, a Michigan record store owner named Jeff Bubeck hit the jackpot when he stumbled upon thousands of lost items in a storage unit that once belonged to the late J Dilla, including thousands of records. Rather than selling them in his store, as he initially planned, he turned them over to Dilla's mother, Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancey, and teamed up with her to help authenticate the 7,000-8,000 pieces of vinyl.

Now, the J Dilla Foundation is auctioning off a portion of the collection Bubeck found on eBay. According to the page, you pay a fee and receive a surprise piece hand-selected by Maureen Yancey. "Records are being chosen randomly (Ma's Choice) so please do not send any requests," the page reads.

They add, "None of the records have been cleaned or checked for defects. You will receive it just as it was in Dilla's collection, possible writing on covers, old price tags, fingerprints and all."

Buyers will receive a certificate of authenticity that allows them to register the LPs in an online registry, and proceeds will go to the J Dilla Foundation.

However, the selection is limited: "Test pressings, personal recordings, personal items, tapes, along with a large portion of the record collection are being held by Ma Dukes for inclusion in a possible future Hip Hop museum and upcoming record release projects."

The "possible future Hip Hop museum" may refer to Afrika Bambaataa's proposal to build a hip-hop museum in the now-empty Kingsbridge Armory in the Bronx. Development plans are still unresolved, however.

The next auction goes live on February 4.

On February 5, the J Dilla Foundation will release Music From the Lost Scrolls Vol. 1, a 10" featuring unreleased Dilla music compiled by Frank Nitt from Frank N Dank. On February 9, the Foundation will host Dilla Day Detroit at the Fillmore. It will feature performances by Talib Kweli, Royce Da 5'9", Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Frank N Dank, Dilla's brother Illa J, and more.

When I first met Leena, I was instantly amazed by her elegant and yet so contemporary style and charisma. I immediately wanted to photograph her – but it took me quite some time to persuade her, since she doesn’t like being pictured. When I visited her in her Mitte apartment, we spend an hour chatting about her job, Berlin, life and fashion, before I took my camera to take this candid shot. And when I send her a selection of pictures, out of all the more “posed” shots we took, she chose this one image, which I initially called an “outtake”, because I thought she might consider it to be too intimate. Needless to say I was more than happy, when she asked me to publish this one.

Leena is a stylist, among many others she works with Hannah Herzsprung, Pheline Roggan and Nora Tschirner. What makes her so successful is first and foremost her ability to create a very personal and unique look for each client, neither trying to force an unsuitable image onto someone, nor persuading them to wear something just because it’s “on trend”. While a job like this sounds rather glamourous, instead of piling up fancy clothes and play dress-up her work is a lot about developing a personal relationship to and understanding of each client’s character and individual perception, .

I portrayed her in her living room, she wears a Dries van Noten cardigan and Sabrina Dehoff jewelry.

Analog synthesizer innovators Moog are unveiling a new handcrafted synth today, the Sub Phatty-- which "grinds and screams with a uniquely aggressive voice," according to a release. Sometimes I wonder
'Is live music REALLY that special?'
'Why do we care abt seeing songs live?'
'Do we even rlly want 2 see bands?'

The answer is most likely, "NO."
to all of those questions
but we go 2 concerts not 2 be lonely
and we only fight loneliness
bc we are hornie.
At the end of the day
everything we do is motivated by sex
[via Freud_bro]

Concerts are no different
Bros go in hopes
of getting their peens hard
and rubbing them on females
Maybe after the concert
they will go home
and he still stick his hard peen
in her wet vagina

and they will say
'i am glad the music brought us 2gthr'
But probably not

I guess the only point of 'concerts'
are just 4 bros 2 get their peens hard
and try to rub them all ovr the girl in front of them
And hope they find a girl who will 'turn around'
by the end of the nite
and 'make out with them'
then they will be the girl who was like
'I can't believe I made out with a random bro
at a _______ concert'
acting like they are some character on @HBO_GIRLZ

Maybe in a way
we only evr do n e thing
bc we are looking 2 rub up on some1/something
2 feel a lil bit 'less alone'

Why do u go 2 concerts?
Have u evr 'rubbed up' on some1 during a 'set'?
Can u find <3 in a hopeless place at a concert?
Can u see that bro's erect cock?
Do u miss being a teen who could only 'get sexual' in public places?
Will u evr be as hornie as u were ages 12-17?

In the past year, Dev Hynes has really come into his own as a producer, helping to usher in great stoner-pop work from singers like Solange and Sky Ferreira. And he’s still recording on his own, under his Blood Orange moniker. This past weekend, he put together a home-recorded cover of “Cyan,” a single from his friend and fellow thoughtful pop-music traveler Kindness, and it’s got much of the same woozy melodic confidence that’s made his recent productions so great. Download it below.

Sometimes I wonder
Does 'alt' even exist n e more?
What happened 2 'counterculture'?
Did it die bc we thought it was a global scene connected on the internet
and now the internet is mnstrm?

How do we survive being on the last chapter of a trend cycle?
Will the next generation of 'self-aware tweens' be interested in 30 year old 'indie' bands?
What will their definition of 'alt' be?
Where will they find channels of 'independent' music
that isn't just some FGGT on youtube posting lame ass shit?

Where have all the alts gone?

I'm not sure where & when this 'diagram' is from
but it feels like it is some Forever 21/Hot Topic shit

Do bros like this even exist in the wild n e more?

Has 'the cultural movement' that is 'the internet' just turned into tweenbashing
& producing meme lists that make us say
'I can't believe we are so old, yall!'

Do all bitches dress the same now?

I guess this is just how bros look.

Where did all the bros who dressed like this '4 real' go?

In 2k13, can we rediscover how 2 be alt 4 the love of being alt?

Is 'indie' / alt = over?
Is 2k13 the last year of indie culture?
What happened 2 pure alts? Are they homeless?
Is it time 2 give up on the myth of 'the creative class'?
Did indie 'officially' end in 2k12?
Do u evr wonder what's left 2 document abt the indie/hipster/alt era?
Do u have good or bad credit?

Jenn Pelly, Listen: Kathleen Hanna's Band the Julie Ruin Share First New Track: "Girls Like Us":

Finally we have a new piece of music from Kathleen Hanna's group the Julie Ruin, her late-90s solo recording project that has evolved into a full-band endeavor. The track, "Girls Like Us" (Vag Vocal Version), is available for free download via The Rumpus as part of a series inspired by the author T. Cooper's new book Real Man Adventures (McSweeney's). Lead vocals were contributed by queercore icon Vaginal Creme Davis.

Each song in the collection is inspired by a specific chapter from the book, which is described as "a meditation on the topic of masculinity." In The Rumpus, Cooper described the chapter "When I Knew", which corresponds to the Julie Ruin song:

[It's] about buying boxer briefs at Century 21 in New York City, and Marky Mark in his Calvin Kleins, before he was Mark Wahlberg and nominated for an Oscar-- among other personal things I don’t really feel like going into here because it’s too intimate for the interwebs. Mostly it’s a send-up of that scene in Silence of the Lambs where the serial killer Buffalo Bill is mincing around his house in a silk kimono while his latest female (plus-sized) victim screams in a dungeon below, where he is fattening her up and conditioning her skin so that he can finish sewing the lady suit he is fashioning out of his victims’ hides.

The collection of songs will not be for sale, but will be available on Cooper's February book tour in a limited edition of CDs, as well as at the East Village, New York City barbershop Ben's Barbers at 217 Avenue A between 13th & 14th.

No word on whether a version of this track will appear on Julie Ruin's forthcoming full-length, which Hanna recently confirmed includes a collaboration with James Murphy, but Cooper said the band was already working on it when he got in touch.

Watch the Julie Ruin perform in Brooklyn in 2010:

Stereogum, Stereogum’s Top 40 Rap Albums Of 2012:

If I’d made a list like this last year, probably 80% of the albums listed would’ve been free-download mixtapes. There are still plenty of those in the list you’ll find below, but there are more actual commercially-available albums than anyone could’ve expected — four of the top five, as it happens. Somehow, some way, despite an ongoing music-business apocalypse and a core audience that can barely ever be assed to pay for music, a whole lot of great rappers figured out ways to put music into actual stores this year, and some of them even sold a bunch of copies. More importantly, many of them figured out ways to knock out cohesive, compelling full-lengths — albums that completely explored a brand-new aesthetic, or paired simpatico rappers and producers, or smartly explored their formative teenage years. Every one of the albums listed below is worth your time. Some of them are even worth your money — even the ones where nobody asked for it. (Also: Sorry in advance that I don’t like Death Grips as much as you guys.)

20jazzfunkgreats, Kraftwerk listening party – What’s in a name?:

From the unorganized power of Organisation emerged the organised Kraftwerk – literally translated meaning Power Station (no relation to the Robert Palmer / Duran Duran supergroup).

Ruckzuck opens the first Kraftwerk album as a statement of intent. Unrelenting rhythms drive the song forward but this time the freak-out is more machine-like. Stuttering patterns echo the machinery around them, as man recreates the sound of the machines. We make no secret here at xxjfg that Ruckzuck is one of our favorite pieces of music of all time.

Stratovarious (a pun on the Stratocaster guitars) with Neu!’s Andreas Hohmann on drums provides a moment at around 6 minutes that gives us the first taste of the legendary motorik rhythm normally associated with Klaus Dinger, the drummer on side 2’s Vom Himmel Hoch.

Kraftwerk – Vom himmel hoch

Vom himmel hoch shows more of Kraftwerks exploration of rhythm with ‘the sound of german funk’ which they would later lend back to Afrika Bambaataa. With the involvement of Dinger, Andreas Homann and Conny Planck as producer, Kraftwerk is a pivotal point in the history of ‘Krautrock’ (a highly derogatory phrase, kraut meaning cabbage).

The title of the track Megaherz (translated as Mega-heart, a wordplay on Megahertz, the unit of frequency) brings in the theme Kraftwerk were to become known for – their obsession with science and specifically energy.

As a whole the album Kraftwerk flows through sonic experiments, as Kraftwerk try and escape the ‘sound’ of traditional instruments, and their salvation was just around the corner.

Kraftwerk play 8 nights at the Tate Modern in February.

20jfg will be hosting Kraftwerk uneasy-listening parties throughout December to celebrate.

Electro mood-generators Chromatics, who made one of the best albums of this year, have continued their ridiculously productive streak, dropping a brand-new cover of New Order’s wistful synthpop classic “Ceremony.” It’s pretty faithful to the original, but the way it slowly and lazily sprawls out is new. Ida No, singer for Chromatics’ Italians Do It Better labelmates Glass candy, plays guitar. Download it below.

Stereogum, Young Dreams – “Fog Of War (Lemonade Remix)”:

You know that a label believes it has a good thing on its hands when a remix EP is commissioned, featuring three redux champs, for a band’s debut single. In the case of Modular and Norwegian young guns Young Dreams, it seems like a wise enough investment. Based on what we know of them, anyway, which is the expansive “Fog Of War,” a track that manages to maintain an airy flutter while being viscerally propulsive via snatches of orchestral, electronic, and traditional rock elements. It’s a handful on a conceptual level, though it goes down incredibly smoothly, which is a very good trick. The Fog EP features redos by Vampire Weekend’s BAIO and the Swedish Balearic gourmands of Korallreven. It also has this one, from Brooklyn-via-SF trio Lemonade, who bathe the original in some low-key, sumptuous house and post-disco elements. It mostly repeats the vocal sample “where I am” / “it seems too much for me”, which is some pretty heavy existential shit. The backing production, though, keeps things balmy, cozy, and danceable, as if these were big “Life” thoughts percolating on a party night, during a critical juncture in your life, while in a club and/or on drugs. There are hand drums, too. Download it:

His new show, I Heart Transylvania, which opened recently at San Francisco’s Little Big Man Gallery, is another great collection of photos. The series spans four years, shot mostly in Vancouver, B.C., and chronicles his relationship with his now wife, Megan.

sarahweinknecht, FvF Mixtape #43:

There is something special about Max John Buschfeld. If you meet the Cologne-born and Berlin-based DJ/producer for the very first time, you will probably notice his rather timid, yet witty demeanor that is combined with an excellent taste in music. Meanwhile he studied at the University of the Arts in Berlin, he insisted in pursuing his love for music. He first did so behind closed doors, but step by step took his passion to Berlin’s clubs such as Prince Charles or Kater Holzig.

In 2006, he released his very first tracks via Oliver Koletzkis infamous Stil vor Talent label, followed by more recent output on Mother Recordings in 2012. Max compiled a beautiful pre-holiday mix for Freunde von Freunden that gets you in the right mood to ease into the winter season with artists like Jedi Mind Tricks, Barbara Keith and Prince.

Tracklist:

01. The Supremes – It’s Time To Break Down
02. Jedi Mind Tricks feat. Planet – I Against I
03. T. Dyson & Company – It’s All Over
04. Taco – Puttin’ On The Ritz
05. Galt MacDermot – Coffee Cold
06. Freddie Foxxx – Feel Like I Been Here
07. Rolling Stones – She’s A Rainbow
08. St. Etienne – Only Love Can Break Your Heart
09. Timmy Thomas – Why Can’t We Live Together
10. Kariya – Let Me Love You For Tonight (12 Inch Mix)
11. Barbara Keith – All Along The Watchtower (Rayko Edit)
12. Ten City – That’s The Way Love Is (Underground Mix)
13. Sixto Rodriguez – Inner City Blues
14. Alessi Brothers – Seabird
15. Dinosaur – Kiss Me Again (Altervative Version)
16. Lusine – Two Dots
17. Prince – I Wanna Be Your Lover (Dimitri From Paris Edit)
18. Grace Jones – I’ve Seen That Face Before
19. The Brian Jonestown Massacre – Anemone
20. Rawcotiks – Going All Out (Instrumental)
21. Nil’s Jazz Ensemble – Hard Work

NPR Music has become an invaluable resource over the past couple of years, streaming a ton of great albums before their release on its website and employing some very good music writers, queen O.G. Ann Powers among them. And now it’s unveiled its year-end list of 50 albums, and this thing is just nuts. The unranked list somehow finds room for Ab-Soul, Pallbearer, Fun., Pink, Dwight Yoakam, Dan Deacon, a healthy smattering of classical and jazz, and a ton of stuff I’ve never heard of. Check out NPR’s picks below.

You lack a cozy balcony? No worries, Julien Berthier has the perfect solution for you: the ‘Balcon additionnel’. The small balcony will be lifted up to the building from a boom-truck on the ground. It fits every building, is permanently attached to the truck, allowing it to be quickly fitted and removed. An easy service for installing a plastic Haussmannian-style balcony on all kinds of buildings. The balcon additionnel is made from plastic resin, steel and paint.

Strange hotel ruins are located at the Nakagusuku castle in Okinawa. The ruins stand calmly with the sea in view. The hotel was under construction for a long time, and many people in Okinawa think that it is haunted. The old ruins are very dangerous, but it is still a beautiful site.

Japanese photographer Shinichi Maruyama's Nude is a series that explores movement through static photography. All taken from the same perspective, the images capture a nude model dancing to stunning effect, with broad sweeps and curves that seem more akin to Arizona's rock formations than a human form.

Although the images have the appearance of long-exposure shots, they're actually composite images created by combining thousands of individual photos together. You can find more of the photographer's work on his personal site, or full-sized images from the Nude series over at Designboom.

While 'bringing the noise' is a concept with a long history in hip-hop, Cities Aviv seems to take it as a legitimate mission statement on his new Black Pleasure. The freebie, which trades in bombastic, washy, aggressive sonics that are sometimes more akin to the brutal side of shoegaze (or even no-wave) should destroy any preconceptions you have about the Memphis-hailing rapper. Highlights include the love song-meets-nightmare of "Escorts" and schizophrenic sincerity of "Visions Of Us."

We’ve already introduced photorealistic painters every now and then and usually some of you were fascinated, others felt indignant to even call it art. If it can be defined as art, craft or a diligent but routine piece of work is a matter of opinion. We are still fascinated by those kind of pictures, that look sometimes more, sometimes less like photographs. So we decided to assemble a Best of photorealism for you. Enjoy.

I've been a big fan of music by the great composer Ludovico Einaudi for a long time.
About 2 years ago I found this great, very different and mysterious track of his.
After searching for it I couldn't find any info on it. Who are the people, where is it from?

Which just made me even more interested and right after hearing it for the first time I knew
I had to make an animation for it. It was a project that has always been in the back of
my mind and hasnt changed a whole lot since day 1.

3 months ago I started working on it for real. It was my first real venture into cellanimation
aswell which was a long and painfull process. But so worth the result!
I worked on it inbetween real client projects and when I could make time for it. At this point I
don't even know how many hours I've put into it.

I have tried to get in touch with Ludovico Einaudi/his people regarding this project cause I'd love for them to
see it. But every email adress I've been pointed to either is not functional or I haven't gotten a reply.

All the credit for the orginal sound of course goes to him. I'm merly an artist doing what I have to - create.
Inspired by his work.

Extra sound design to the project is created by Vince Kriss, co-worker at Adme.adme.se

‘Shooting into the Corner’ consists of a cannon developed by artist Anish Kapoor together with a team of engineers. A pneumatic compressor shoots 11-kilogram balls of wax at 20-minute intervals into the corner across the room; all in all, 20 tons of wax were ‘fired away’ throughout the exhibition run in 2009. Loud aggression on the one hand and silent growth on the other give the piece tension, sensuality, and compelling power. Go check out his website for more of Kapoor’s faszinating work.

The World in 2 Minutes – Germany!
