Finding information and images on these forums is not as simple as I thought it would be because posts related to buying and selling endangered animals use slang phrases and typographical tricks. Khánh says: "At first, I didn't know about these regulations, so my original posts were erased.”

Members of these groups strictly avoid typing out words such as “mua” (buy), “bán” (sell), “giá” (price), “thanh lý” (sale), etc. Instead, users add a period in between letters in order to avoid Facebook's censorship algorithm. Other tricks include using the rice emoji to indicate price (“lúa” is a slang word for money) and translating species names into English, such as "3G" for snail-eating turtles (rùa Ba Gờ) and "núi gold" for elongated tortoises (rùa Núi Vàng).]]></description>

One common view emphasizes that players are cognitively able to operate with the game world as the experiential point of reference leading to states of "immersion, "spatial presence", or "engagement". A different view is that the player is also embodied and situated in the actual world, entailing that the video game experience also involves physical preconditions like hardware for playing. One aspect that has not been clearly thematized and analyzed is the contribution of the video game controller. I propose that the controller is not just an input device that lets the player act in the video game, but to play a video game is to act both on the controller and in the video game through the controller. It has the the dual character of requiring the player to act in the actual world while simultaneously providing the player with the link to the video game. This duality is similar to signs, which makes it possible and fertile to analyze game-controller pairings according to general semiotic principles.]]></description>

The meeting minutes noted that the UTC’s Emoji Subcommittee would “Continue to consider ‘white wine’ emoji for future addition.” If certain news outlets are to be believed, white-wine drinkers everywhere were devastated. In a piece titled, “The Petition for the White Wine Emoji Has Been Sadly Rejected,” People encouraged its readers to continue the fight and “keep hope alive that one day you’ll see a white-wine emoji at a keyboard near you!” Food & Wine magazine opined that the white wine emoji “has generated plenty of support and, frankly, seems inherently logical.”]]></description>

In between those two points there are a number of layers of computer program which communicate with each other: the keyboard controller sends a message to the operating system which is interpreted by a word processor, which then returns a message to the operating system, which communicates with the video controller and the video board sends a message that it needs an “a” and this is mapped as a group of pixels which light up on the screen. Except that none of this actually happens. At the level of physical reality, all that happens is the shifting of magnetic fields and the passing of electrons. The electrons orbiting atoms slide from one atom to the next along wires, among silicon and metal. Entities like computer programs and operating systems are abstractions, layers of abstractions in fact, on top of a brute reality. In this paper I argue that this is the appropriate starting point for understanding the role of semiotics in negotiating reality. Taking examples from computer science, visual perception and language, this inquiry considers what kind of abstraction we want semiotics to be. It is found that “the semiotic abstraction” allows us to understand semiotic systems as machines for creating differences, and semiotics itself as the primordial science of meaning.]]></description>
