At a time when branding new, occasionally innovative but often only catchy terms has become a familiar activity of researchers, companies and policymakers alike, it is necessary to reflect on which of these concepts is actually worthwhile, provides analytic value and in effect describes something new. This new special section Defining concepts of the digital society seeks to foster a platform that discusses and validates these overarching frameworks and theories. Based on the latest research, yet broad in scope, the contributions offer effective tools to analyse the digital society. Their authors offer concise articles that portray and critically discuss individual concepts such as algorithmic governance, datafication, platformisation, privacy with an interdisciplinary mindset. Each article contextualises their respective origin and academic traditions, analyses their contemporary usage in different research approaches and discusses their social, political, cultural, ethical or economic relevance and impact as well as their analytical value. The special section is a continuing project that will expand the collection of concepts in 2020 and beyond. We sincerely hope that it will grow into a valuable forum for making sense of the digital transformation and a pertinent resource for researchers, teachers, students and practitioners.

It specifies the differences between scholarship and quick information seeking, and examines the implications of those differences for the future of cataloging. It examines various proposals that the profession should concentrate its efforts on alternatives to cataloging: relevance ranking, tagging, under-the-hood programming, etc. The paper considers the need for, and requirements of, education of researchers; and it examines in detail many of the glaring disconnects between theory and practice in the library profession today. It's important to not remain stuck in your "things I learned in the 80s/90s" mindset of C development.

You can build an eBay search URL pretty easily by assembling a base URL and multiple URL query string parameters. The result is a URL that delivers on-site search results per your request and eBay's back-end search processing algorithms.

I don't think eBay's search URL parameters are officially documented anywhere, but below are a handful of 'em I've collected in my notes and used. This is certainly a non-exhaustive list, as there are many more, including many redundant ones too.

I learned many of these through trial-and-error, plucking params out of live eBay searches and tinkering with them. It's certainly possible that some of these params don't always work, only used to work in earlier eBay search frameworks, or work only in certain scenarios. Be sure to test your URL before going live.

Start with this base URL (adapted to whichever eBay country-site you are targeting): http://www.ebay.com/sch/_______ . Then append the respective parameters, taking into account typical syntax requirements such as URL encoding when necessary (%20 for space) and ? or & as needed. Most of these params infer default values, so you can use only the ones you need in your final URL. I've inserted some example values below.

Note that these status codes are optional; servers cannot be required
to support them. However, because clients will treat unknown status
codes as a generic error of the same class (e.g., 499 is treated as
400 if it is not recognized), they can be safely deployed by existing
servers (see [RFC2616] Section 6.1.1 for more information).

In the '80's and '90's the musical challenges are to find elsewhere than in '60's and '70's. Music still is extremely interesting nowadays (and I can hardly notice everything because there has been an explosion of creativity since a few years, and many genres have creative souls that have something original to offer). You still need a nose and an eye for music to find out where the real creativity lies. And also, the world is big. These pages review some selections. (The term 'prog' nowadays means something different already and refers hardly to what was "progressive" in the early days. Some people like to call more of the interesting stuff "psychedelic" or "psych", but some of the new inventive music could still be called "progressive" too -in the very old sense of what that means-... But this wise grandmother just says "Oh what do I love music".

In many situations, simple data graphics will not only suffice, they may also be preferable. Here we focus on a few of the more sophisticated and unusual techniques that deal with complex data sets. After all, you don't go to the zoo to see Chihuahuas and raccoons; you go to admire the majestic polar bear, the graceful zebra, and the terrifying Sumatran tiger. Analogously, we cover some of the more exotic (but practically useful!) forms of visual data representation, starting with one of the most common, time-series data; continuing on to statistical data and maps; and then completing the tour with hierarchies and networks. Along the way, bear in mind that all visualizations share a common "DNA"—a set of mappings between data properties and visual attributes such as position, size, shape, and color—and that customized species of visualization might always be constructed by varying these encodings.

This data may be embedded within enhanced search engine results, exposed to users through browser extensions, aggregated across websites or used by scripts running within those HTML pages.

This guide aims to help publishers and consumers of HTML data use it well. With several syntaxes and vocabularies to choose from, it provides guidance about how to decide which meets the publisher's or consumer's needs. It discusses when it is necessary to mix syntaxes and vocabularies and how to publish and consume data that uses multiple formats. It describes how to create vocabularies that can be used in multiple syntaxes and general best practices about the publication and consumption of HTML data.

At present the IEP is visited by over 500,000 persons per month.

Most of the articles in The IEP are original contributions by specialized philosophers; these are identifiable by the author’s name at the foot of the article. Others are temporary, or “proto articles,” and have largely been adapted from older sources. They are identifiable by the inclusion of the initials “IEP” at the close and will in time be replaced by original articles.

Lessons from database research have been applied in academic fields ranging from bioinformatics to next-generation Internet architecture and in industrial uses including Web-based e-commerce and search engines. The core ideas in the field have become increasingly influential. This text provides both students and professionals with a grounding in database research and a technical context for understanding recent innovations in the field. The readings included treat the most important issues in the database area -- the basic material for any DBMS professional. This fourth edition has been substantially updated and revised, with 21 of the 48 papers new to the edition, four of them published for the first time. Many of the sections have been newly organized, and each section includes a new or substantially revised introduction that discusses the context, motivation, and controversies in a particular area, placing it in the broader perspective of database research. Two introductory articles, never before published, provide an organized, current introduction to basic knowledge of the field; one discusses the history of data models and query languages and the other offers an architectural overview of a database system. The remaining articles range from the classical literature on database research to treatments of current hot topics, including a paper on search engine architecture and a paper on application servers, both written expressly for this edition. The result is a collection of papers that are seminal and also accessible to a reader who has a basic familiarity with database systems.
