His first hypothesis that architectures taking full advantage of serverless offerings can't/won't result in _worse_ designs seems largely to be true save for situations in which there is a business motivation for the architecture to involve very long-lived TCP connections.  (This is basically the one part of Slack I can't figure out how to map cleanly into a hypothetical purely serverless architecture.)

It's really interesting that they're dogfooding Lambda and API Gateway so heavily within their own control planes.  I wonder how far down the rabbit hole that dependency goes.  Is e.g. the EC2 control plane dependent on Lambda?  Would that represent a circular dependency as I presume it must?

He acknowledges an interesting divide between compute and messaging/storage serverless offerings.  Storage systems can't be serverless in the same way because some computers obviously have to store those bits.

I remain a fan of serverless architectures despite the atrocity of the term "serverless."  I look forward to more opportunities to work with these technologies.]]></description>
