The new data show similar delays in the arrival times of photons, which they believe will help physicists discriminate between these models. In this way, theories of not everything are falsifiable—giving them the edge over more ambitious theory-of-everything candidates.

    <dc:creator>pskomoroch</dc:creator><description><![CDATA[DPMTA is a portable implementation of the Paralel Multipole Tree Algorithm (PMTA) which runs in a distributed environment under the PVM toolset. DPMTA  provides application programmers with a easy to use interface to compute full N-body interaction solutions.

Although DPMTA is targeted mainly for the high precision requirements of Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations, its generic interface makes it useful for many other applications. DPMTA has been successfully incorporated into several existing MD programs, including Sigma and NAMD.

    <dc:creator>pskomoroch</dc:creator><description><![CDATA[Hofman, a graduate student at Columbia University, downloaded the list when the abstracts came online a few months ago. He used the data to create a network, linking physicists who were listed as co-authors on a talk.

To the right you’ll see the visualization he ended up with. It’s a little tricky to interpret (and also quite preliminary), but the basic idea is that each of the 6755 physicists is shown in order on both the x- and y- axis. Blue points indicate co-authors, and white points show no affiliation. Large clumps of blue show communities, most of which seem to correspond to particular subfields.
