Traditional linear reading is highly inefficient. This comes from the fact that various pieces of the text are of various importance. Some should be skipped. Others should be read in the first order of priority. Old-fashioned books are quickly being replaced with hypertext. Hypertext will help you quickly jump to information that is the most important at any given moment. Hypertext requires a different style of writing. All linear texts can assume that the reader is familiar with the preceding sections. This makes them context-poor. Within hypertext, individual texts become context-independent, and all difficult terms and concepts are explained primarily with additional hyperlinks. In the same way in which the web helped delinearize the global sources of information, SuperMemo can help you delinearize your reading of whatever linear material you decide to import to SuperMemo. While reading with SuperMemo, you will see a linear text as a sequence of sections subdivided into paragraphs and individual sentences. SuperMemo will help you provide a separate and independent processing for each section, paragraph or sentence.

Our mission is to develop partnerships with the people of Mongolia in furtherance of cultural exchange and human development. In fulfillment of this mission, our membership and fundraising supports the core programs, listed below, that contribute to the future of Mongolia.

FOM was founded by volunteers, and it has remained a volunteer-operated organization ever since. Membership was and still remains open to all people with an interest in cultural and educational exchange between the United States and Mongolia. Current members include returned Peace Corps Volunteers, individuals from the private sector, people who have served in the diplomatic corps, and those who have an interest in or family connections to Mongolia.

The Board of Directors oversees Friends of Mongolia, and Officers manage day-to-day operations. Both the Board and Officers are elected by FOM members, and all serve as volunteers without salary. A Country Program Representative is appointed by the board to coordinate activities in Mongolia.

FOM is incorporated in the United States of America as a 501(c)( 3) nonprofit organization, conducting activities in both Mongolia and the United States. It is also affiliated with the National Peace Corps Association, but Friends of Mongolia membership is open to anyone with an interest in Mongolia.

SVA - MA Design Research, Writing & Criticism

This rigorous one-year program equips students with tools for researching, analyzing, and interpreting design, its contexts and consequences. Through workshops, seminars, lectures, and site-visits, students examine the issues and policies that shape the designed environment; learn research methods, reporting techniques, and theoretical models; and experiment with a range of media vehicles for communicating their research, including online writing, podcasting, video, exhibitions, and events. Each student will identify an individual research territory to explore during the year, culminating in a thesis portfolio of written and applied media projects.

The program is suited to professionals who wish to deepen their multi-dimensional research practice and enrich their understanding of design, architecture, and urban infrastructure, as well as recent graduates, holding BA and BFA degrees, interested in strengthening their writing and critical thinking and developing an area of expertise. Read working life reports from alumni, who have used the program as a catalyst for launching careers at the forefront of global design research at companies and institutions such as Facebook, Metropolis, Vitra Design Museum, Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, Rizzoli, RISD, Institute of Play, Museum of Modern Art, The Glass House, Rutgers University, Project Projects, Ziba, and Storefront for Art and Architecture.

The MA in Design Research features an unparalleled core faculty, comprised of celebrated curators, editors, critics, and designers, such as: MoMA Senior Curator of Design and Architecture Paola Antonelli; design consultant and curator Murray Moss; The New York Times culture reporter Robin Pogrebin; and urban design critic Karrie Jacobs. With more than 30 guest lecturers and critics visiting the department per semester—including The New York Times senior critic Michael Kimmelman, author and Studio 360 host Kurt Andersen, New Journalism progenitor Gay Talese, biographer Deborah Solomon, architecture curator Pedro Gadanho, urban planning designers Interboro Partners, MIT Media Lab founder Nicholas Negroponte, and British design critic Rick Poynor—the program takes particular care to connect students to inspirational mentors, potential employers, and colleagues.

The MA department has its own floor in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. Each student has a desk space within an open-plan, light-filled workspace. The program takes advantage of its central New York location with frequent visits to the city’s design collections, archives, libraries, design and architecture studios, SVA design departments, and behind-the-scenes access to exhibitions-in-the-making, new buildings, and urban planning developments.

The SVA MA in Research, Writing & Criticism is a dynamic program of graduate study, aligned to the cutting edge of design practice and responsive to exciting developments in the media landscape. It aims to generate provocative new thinking about design and to help shape the ways in which design is engendered, presented, and evaluated. In providing the tools for constructing compelling narratives about design in multiple formats, the program prepares students for future-facing careers in research, publishing, education, museums, institutes, design practice, and entrepreneurship, or for continued studies in a design-related subject.

Hybrid Pedagogy is an open-access journal that
: connects discussions of critical pedagogy, digital pedagogy, and online pedagogy;
: brings higher education and K-12 teachers into conversation with the e-learning and open education communities;
: considers our personal and professional hybridity;
: disrupts distinctions between students, teachers, and learners;
: explores the relationship between pedagogy and scholarship;
: invites its audience to participate in (and be an integral part of) the peer review process;
: and thus interrogates (and makes transparent) academic publishing practices.

Hybrid Pedagogy offers a new academic publishing model influenced by digital culture. As a scholarly journal, we encourage participation in the composition and peer review of articles across disciplinary and professional boundaries. We use what we call “collaborative peer review,” in which members of the editorial collective engage directly with authors to revise and develop articles, followed by post-publication peer review. We invite experimentation and improvisation. Visit our submissions page to find out more about how you can support and participate in the work of the journal.

These students and a dozen staff learn together by living together—sharing work, play, study, and decision-making. Students and staff live according to the Quaker values of simplicity, responsibility, service, personal integrity, nonviolent conflict resolution, and respect for self, others and the environment.

The program at AMS is specifically designed to meet the needs and interests of teenagers. Small academic classes provide close attention to individual needs, while a wide range of electives emphasize self-expression and hands-on learning. AMS allows students to experience success in the classroom as well as outdoors, in the arts, and through our work program.

The central aim of the school is to help each student grow into a confident and responsible young person. Instead of learning to compete, students learn to cooperate, care for themselves, their world, and each other. AMS is dedicated to helping students become compassionate, confident, and competent young men and women.

The key concept in all areas of the Center’s work is the rigorous reflection of Modernism–the discourse of Modernism, which forms a bridge between the history of design and the Vignelli design tradition. The Center’s aims therefore are to conserve, research
and extend this cultural heritage and, at the same time, investigate current design issues.

We believe that there’s a lot more to class than lecture. Post links, videos, files. Start discussions. Write a blog post. Ask about an assignment. Classes are meant to be social, but they rarely are. We’re changing that.

It focuses on graphic designers, visual communication designers and media designers, with a bachelor's degree or an equivalent degree and professional design experience.
The MFA UIC/HGK addresses students who want to be part of an international program influenced by the tradition of Swiss Graphic Design and the current academic perspective and standards of the Visual Communication Institute, The Basel School of Design. Of special interest for students is the opportunity to graduate with an internationally accredited Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Graphic Design (UIC) and the Swiss equivalent, MAS in Graphic Design I, Iconicism and Graphic Design II, Mediality. Students are matriculated and registered at UIC with classes being held at the FHNW/HGK Visual Communication Institute in Basel.
Graphic Design, Visual Communication and Media Design, give visual form to messages that become a part of our everyday lives. Although these disciplines contribute to the much discussed "image flood" in today’s societies, we find implicit knowledge about the meaning of images, the process of creating them and their media references of extreme importance. It is on this central theme that the MFA and the MAS Graphic Design I, II is focused. Therefore, the goal of the program is the deepening of process-oriented design skills through project oriented design work with enhanced analytical competence in image theory and the media sciences.
