It is both crucible and catalyst for new ways of thinking and doing in museums.

Internally, R&D is a research resource for departments and initiatives across the MoMA. It helps inform the Museum’s short- and long-term plans by means of a digest, thematic salons, and ad hoc meetings and discussions, both large and small. Our vision for the Museum is one that integrates physical and digital space seamlessly and creatively to reach well beyond its confines and influence society.

Through its activities, MoMA R&D presents stimulating ideas for new curatorial and educational programs, offers new models of cultural engagement that reach both local and international audiences, supports and informs MoMA’s activities in the digital space, and researches new partnerships and products (material and immaterial) that can expand MoMA’s mission and generate creative, cultural, and—in some cases—financial capital.

VANJIL Arts Centre (V.A.C) is an independent arts organisation founded by Tsendpurev Tsegmid, Delgerkhuu Tsegmid, Tsegmid Vanjil and Bayarsanaa Sodnom in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

V.A.C follows up the legacy of MONUK, which was a not for profit art project started by Tsendpurev Tsegmid and Dr Juliet MacDonald in March 2006, under the name of MONUK (Mongolia–UK) in Leeds, UK. Its original aim was to initiate cultural links between two countries and to start dialogues about contemporary art and visual cultures.

Since then, MONUK team organised an international exhibition project titled ODOO/CURRENT (2006-2007) which took place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The exhibition project was curated by Jill Morgan and kindly supported by the Leeds School of Contemporary Art & Graphic Design, Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK and The Institute of Fine Arts (IFA), University of Art and Culture in Mongolia. The landmark exhibition was hosted at Chinggis Art Gallery (10-30th April 2007) showcasing works of 12 UK-based international artists. The exhibition was the first group exhibition from the UK, introducing diverse contemporary art practices such as; photography, video, installation, mixed media, drawing, text-based works. Check out the archival blog for more details: http://www.odoocurrent2007.blogspot.com/. MONUK’s second project SILK HIGHWAY (2008 – 2010) was an online collaboration between artists based in the UK and Mongolia.

Following the tradition set out by MONUK, V.A.C will be looking to continue to develop links with organisations, institutions, artists, curators, filmmakers and scholars from all over the world. Currently, we are working on our programme for 2013-2016.

We are aspiring to become the cultural hub in Ulaanbaatar, specialising in fine art, contemporary art, photography, film and publishing through organisation of exhibitions, books, art events, art auctions, public seminars, workshops, talks, film screenings and collaborations with local and international creative practitioners and researchers.

The Museum presents compelling perspectives on the impact of design on daily life through active educational and curatorial programming.

It is the mission of Cooper Hewitt’s staff and Board of Trustees to advance the public understanding of design across the thirty centuries of human creativity represented by the Museum’s collection. The Museum was founded in 1897 by Amy, Eleanor, and Sarah Hewitt—granddaughters of industrialist Peter Cooper—as part of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. A branch of the Smithsonian since 1967, Cooper-Hewitt is housed in the landmark Andrew Carnegie Mansion on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

The campus also includes two historic townhouses renovated with state-of-the-art conservation technology and a unique terrace and garden. Cooper Hewitt’s collections include more than 217,000 design objects and a world-class design library. Its exhibitions, in-depth educational programs, and on-site, degree-granting master’s program explore the process of design, both historic and contemporary. As part of its mission, Cooper Hewitt annually sponsors the National Design Awards, a prestigious program which honors innovation and excellence in American design. Together, these resources and programs reinforce Cooper Hewitt’s position as the preeminent museum and educational authority for the study of design in the United States.

The collection serves an important role in documenting the social, historical and cultural evolution of the country. The Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery is a government-supported arts organization. Its collection forms the basis for providing aesthetic experiences and art education to the public. Artworks in the collection cover a range of themes from history and cultural traditions to landscapes and contemporary expressions.

The MNMAG is part of a network of local and international organizations and individual experts in the modern art field. In recent years, this network has expanded through collaboration with UNESCO, the International Council of Museums, the Federation of Asian Artists, Embassies in Ulaanbaatar and the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum of Japan.

The Whitney Museum of American Art was borne out of sculptor Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney’s advocacy on behalf of living American artists. At the beginning of the twentieth century, artists with new ideas found it nearly impossible to exhibit or sell their work in the United States. Recognizing the obstacles these artists faced, Mrs. Whitney began purchasing and showing their work, thereby becoming the leading patron of American art from 1907 until her death in 1942.

In 1914, Mrs. Whitney established the Whitney Studio in Greenwich Village, where she presented exhibitions by living American artists whose work had been disregarded by the traditional academies. By 1929 she had assembled a collection of more than 500 works, which she offered with an endowment to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. When the offer was refused, she set up her own museum, one with a new and radically different mandate: to focus exclusively on the art and artists of this country. The Whitney Museum of American Art was founded in 1930, and opened in 1931 on West Eighth Street in Greenwich Village.

The Museum moved to an expanded site on West 54th Street in 1954. Having outgrown that building by 1963, the Museum acquired its present site on Madison Avenue at 75th Street. This building, designed by Marcel Breuer and Hamilton Smith, with Michael Irving as consulting architect, opened in 1966.

The Whitney was the first museum to take its exhibitions and programming beyond its own walls by establishing corporate-funded branch museums in other parts of New York City and the surrounding area. The Whitney branches were located in downtown Manhattan; at the Equitable Center at Seventh Avenue and 52nd Street; at Champion International Corporation in Stamford, Connecticut; and at the corporate headquarters of Altria (originally the Philip Morris Companies) on Park Avenue and 42nd Street.

I will paint your books or you can buy affordable prints of other sets, here in this shop and on 20x200. You can see new work and other news in our blog, and if you see a bookshelf there that you love but don't see prints of it available, please just ask about it!

In 2010, I began working with the writer Thessaly La Force, and together we've made a book called My Ideal Bookshelf, to be published by Little, Brown and available on November 13, 2012. I painted the favorite books of over 100 creative thinkers from all fields (from writers and chefs to artists, ballet dancers, and musicians), and Thessaly interviewed them about their choices and how they became who they are today.

Ideal Bookshelf is now a very small team of folks, working to create beautiful things and send them out to you as quickly as possible. We've just launched this new version of our website and hope you find it easy-to-use and nice to look at. Please don't hesitate to email us if you have any questions, and I love to hear suggestions on genres of books to paint next, or how you think this shop could be improved.

Founded in 2002, New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) collective of professionals working with contemporary art. Our mission is to create an open flow of information, support, and collaboration within our field and to develop a stronger sense of community among our constituency. We believe that the adversarial approach to exhibiting and selling art has run its course. We believe that change can be achieved through fostering constructive thought and dialogue between various points in the art industry from large galleries to small spaces, non-profit and commercial alike. Through support and encouragement, we facilitate strong and meaningful relationships between our members working with new contemporary and emerging art; while enhancing the public’s interaction with contemporary art.

Our international group of members includes both galleries (including non-profit spaces) and individuals (art professionals, independent curators, and established gallery directors). The various perspectives and ideas offered by our diverse roster creates a network which, at its most basic, is a resource which people could contribute to and take as much (or as little) as they are inclined. We believe in a spirit of friendly competition and the power of working collectively to gain access to resources and to provide services to artists and the public that we could not as individuals. The benefits for some may be a matter of business, for others a source of intellectual or aesthetic stimulation.

To date, our initiatives have succeeded on two fronts: making the contemporary arts more accessible for the general public, and creating opportunities that nurture the growth of emerging artists, curators, and galleries. Our events have included: artist talks/gallery walks with critics and curators; benefits in support of charitable institutions; members-only seminars to stimulate dedication and ethics in our profession; panel discussions; and our annual art fairs, which are held in April, May and December are free and open to the public.

The New Art Dealers Alliance is a not-for-profit organization, registered in the State of New York. Membership is by invitation only, following nomination by an existing member and approval by the Board.

I also design stamps for the United States Postal Service and small projects, such as annual reports and event collateral, for non-profit organizations.

I believe that research is integral to the design process, the structure should evolve from the content, and the design should be appropriate to the material at hand, not imposed on it. I believe that successful design is a collaborative effort between client and designer. I pay careful attention to detail, fine typography, and clear organization with the goal of creating engaging, beautiful, readable, and provoking objects.

Her videos and installations move between enigmatic acts of personal revelation and social observation, blending elements of cinema, theatre and documentary. Kirouac's quasi-biographical work evokes uneasy reactions of empathy, humor, and pain, yet the unifying thread is a state of contingency where both content and narrative unfold without conclusion.
