One such evidence came to light with Sir James Frazer’s “The Golden Bough”, where he discussed a priest of Diana by a sacred tree by the Nemi lake. Other Romans, such as Ovid, clearly did not actually know why this priest was there, why he protected the sacred boughs of the tree, why he had to be replaced by a stronger priest and so forth. It was actually already a mystery by then. One writer, the Greek geographer Strabo, even called it a “barbarian” element. "

Identity beliefs and rhetoric currently function as a soft influence in neofascist accelerationist groups. While researching the CI movement, we discovered Christian Identity influence manifesting in over 30 public neofascist channels on the encrypted messaging app Telegram. Many of these channels do not openly claim to embrace or practice Christian Identity. However, through the presence of CI ideology and language, Christian Identity’s impact on these groups is clear and dangerous. "

Bottum: "Suppose you analyse this class in terms of its members’ answer to the question, ‘How do you know that you are saved?’. In the past, people would say ‘because I believe in Christ’ and the rest of it. But the modern version of this question is, ‘How do you know you are a good person? And how can you have assurance of your goodness?’. Which is Max Weber’s question in The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism – and Weber says this anxiety about salvation actually has economic and political consequences. Let’s apply that Weberian analysis and ask what are the consequences of being worried about your salvation, phrased in today’s terms of being worried about being a good person. If it’s all about social ills, then you know you are a good person if you are opposed to those social ills, if you are anti-racist, even if you don’t do anything. You are convinced of your own salvation. You are one of the Elect if you adopt this stance of being opposed to the great sins. "

I can’t think of anyone, other than Driscoll, that embraces both Calvinism and what appear to me to be apostolic spiritual warfare teachings at the same time. "

" With that said, I will introduce a video that really bothered me when I first saw it last week. Still bothers me. This is Driscoll teaching on spiritual warfare (you can review the transcript at this link): "

" In the video, Driscoll says he tells people that they have been abused. The people may have no memory of any such event but Driscoll says he can see it happening. Furthermore, he says that, at times, he sees the sins, specifically sins involving sex and aggression, of his congregation and others who cross his path. "

After two hours of seemingly respectful but intense debate he told me he was reporting our conversation to constituent pastors of the denomination for which I then worked–specifically a loosely organized group of them who were attempting to get one of my colleagues fired. During the “conversation” (which was an inquisition and the Calvinist pastor knew it but attempted to deceive me) the Calvinist pastor said he would do his best to get me fired if I did not side with him and his friends in attempting to get my colleague fired (even though I did not agree with my colleague about the controversial issue). I forgive that Calvinist pastor for his attempted betrayal of my trust, but I will never trust him. "

" This past summer, a Businessweek investigation came to a similar conclusion about the Mormon Church’s inner Scrooge. The church’s assets are now worth at least $40 billion, with annual revenues over $8 billion—most of those revenues going untaxed. Billions pour in thanks to the annual 10% tithe and the numerous businesses, untaxed, which flourish. And whereas Mormons used to keep some of the annual tithe money for local purposes to distribute to the needy, a policy change in the 1990s means that all tithe funds are now wired directly to Salt Lake City—where the records are kept from public scrutiny, and the central authorities do what they wish with the funds.

" So how much do they actually give? Even the Mormon Church’s own figures show that their total outlays for welfare and charity since 1985 are a mere $1.3 billion. Less than one-third of those donations are in the form of “monetary assistance” with the bulk coming from “material assistance.” That may sound impressive at first—until you break it down to an annual figure of $52 million in charity—on annual revenues of $8 billion.

" Another study quoted in Businessweek put the Mormon Church's annual welfare expenditures at a mere 0.7% of the church’s annual revenues—about 1/400th the charity portion of the United Methodist Church, which donates 29 percent of its revenues annually.

" Maybe on Planet Koleb donating 0.7% a year is a big deal, but on this planet, that makes the Mormon church one of the stingiest religious groups going. In fact, it makes the Mormon Church a lot stingier than some of the worst names in Corporate America: In 2010, Dow Chemical donated 7.3% of its profits ($34m) to charity, while bankster villains Morgan Stanley gave 5.7% of their profits ($55 million) to charity. That makes Dow Chemical more than 10-times Christ-ier than the Mormon Church! "
