"I don't pretend to know the answer to fixing horse racing's problems. Smarter, more experienced people than myself have tried to reverse the seemingly inexorable decline of the Sport of Kings. And certainly Louisiana horsemen and racing officials could do their part to improve the quality of racing by reducing the number of race days required for each meet and writing fewer state-bred races for each card. But I do know that CDI would not be in the racing/casino business if not for its racetrack holdings, and consequently it owes the sport, its fans and horsemen to provide the best product possible. And they're not getting that at the Fair Grounds. Far from it."

While financial analysts have applauded the shift — its stock has risen 51 percent in the past five years — the horse racing world feels abandoned by Churchill Downs."

In our role as customer and partner, CDI purchases advertising from the Form, and our locations serve as distribution outlets for DRF’s daily publication. DRF has positioned itself as a media and wagering company, drastically changing its relationship with our racetracks, OTBs, and TwinSpires.com. That change in direction gives us pause."
