My local supermarket currently has a special where you can buy a prepaid ICS phone for $40 (currently 50% off).
Up until today I had no idea devices running such a recent version of Android were available for so cheap.

Get used to it.

Facebook and Google may have fallen out over contacts sync, Google stripping support for adding Facebook friends into the Android address book back in the Nexus S days, but that hasn't stopped modders from adding it back into Ice Cream Sandwich.

Translation: ICS still doesn't support Facebook contacts sync.

It's the GSM Nexus that's under fire today. You see, over on XDA some GSM Nexus owners have been having problems manually flashing the recently rolled out update to 4.0.1. Unfortunately, there's no problem with the update file. It has to do with custom Samsung installed firmwares.

Or just continue to enjoy the Gingerbread software? It's hard to know whether Galaxy Nexus owners tend towards those who know what ICS is, or not.

For most people, moving from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich has been a night-and-day change; particularly on a phone, ICS really is a whole new Android experience. Unfortunately, for owners of Samsung phones -- excluding Nexus devices, of course, which are controlled by Google and thus free from Sammy's modifications -- it's going to be more of an incremental upgrade. Still a significant upgrade, mind you, but more evolutionary than revolutionary. And that's a shame, because ICS as Google created it is pretty damn impressive.

Actually, the change from Gingerbread to ICS is quite jarring - the direction of scrolling of apps and other things. Samsung is keeping its existing customers close; that's a sensible move for the biggest Android maker.

Let’s just say that on a tablet, they work damn awkward when compared to the smartphone implementation on the Nexus. Frankly, I think even iOS 5 on the iPad has ICS on the tablet beat. "I was really hoping we’d get pull down notifications instead of that weird “stack” on the lower right hand corner which in my opinion is an exercise in pure frustration, especially if you have a lot of notification events from apps piling up. And jumping into the Settings dialog is still a royal pain unless you make a dedicated shortcut to it on your home screen. "Ultimately, this all boils down to ICS being a less intuitive tablet OS which is harder for the average user to understand than Apple’s iOS. On a subsidized smartphone device with 4G LTE technology, an end-user is likely to tolerate these kind of geeky issues, but on a $400-$600 tablet, I’m not so certain. "ICS has done absolutely nothing to make Android less geeky or more user friendly. That alone is worth consideration." He also dislikes the 16:9 screen size, something which is rarely mentioned but seems quite an important point.

A Tumblr looking at UI inconsistencies or weirdnesses in Ice Cream Sandwich (aka Android 4.0). If you're presently on Android 2.x, you'll probably find ICS like moving into a new house where all the rooms have been rearranged. So, is there a similar Tumblr for iOS?
