When creating mobile applications, most application development efforts focus on the iOS and Android platforms, for fairly obvious reasons. In October and November 2011, Android and iOS accounted for 90% of all smartphone sales (47% and 43%, respectively). While the platform with the majority of users may fluctuate over the next few years as both platforms continue to evolve, it’s safe to say that organizations will need to support application development for both platforms for the foreseeable future.

As Figure 4 hopefully shows, XP is generally most appropriate on smaller, highly dynamic projects although many of its practices can provide value when combined with other management methodologies. XP has also been scaled to companies with hundreds of developers, but handling large projects is a customization a company has to make—it is not inherent to the XP process due to it’s intense focus on constant, quick feedback and simplicity.
AUP provides a higher ceremony process that may be appropriate for larger teams, distributed teams, and systems of higher criticality. If the adopting corporate culture is likely to change slowly from a Waterfall-like process, AUP would be a good choice to "ease" into an Agile mindset.

Scrum and Lean are frameworks that focus on how to manage the overall process, maximize business value, and reduce waste. Because Scrum and Lean do not specify technical practices, either can complement methodologies that do, such as XP or a company's existing methodology

Microsoft created a toolkit to address desirability in studies, and their use of the product reaction cards from that kit was presented at conferences in 2002 and 2004. Since then, however, little has been published about how others have used the cards to measure desirability. We began using the product reaction cards in 2006, and we report on the results in case studies from the past several years. We find that the cards prompt users to tell a rich and revealing story of their experience. Triangulating these findings with post-test questionnaire data and direct observation strengthens the understanding of the desirability factor.

As apperating systems spread and improve, they will help Android and iOS better serve niche audiences and serve as labs for features that migrate back to the host system and into general use. Last week Google launched The Mobile Playbook, a resource guide for executives on how to implement mobile into their organizations and win with mobile. Today, we’d like to shed some light on the actual work that went behind themobileplaybook.com and what that means for advertisers from a technology and mobile strategy standpoint.

We built The Mobile Playbook in partnership with Hello Monday, a creative agency with strong capabilities in HTML5 design. We saw this site not only as an opportunity to showcase useful content but also as an opportunity to demonstrate the power of HTML5. To put it another way, we wanted to walk the talk. It is one thing to recommend that advertisers optimize across screens and another to actually do it ourselves.

For most workplaces where work can get done both at work and home, a more engaged mobile strategy is needed. In these environments, mobile is an almost equal partner with traditional workplace methods. A corporate app store is a must where users can look for approved apps and there is support for BYOD. Mobile is not in every department; however many core functions use mobile apps alongside their existing desktop software. In the future, the cost-benefit tradeoff for apps vs. mobile sites will change.

Although I just said that computers will become 100 times more powerful, this doesn't necessarily mean that the iPhone 14 will be 100 times faster than the iPhone 4S. It's more likely that hardware advances will be split between speed and other mobile priorities, especially battery lifetime. So, a future phone might be only 10 times faster (but will be thinner, lighter, and able to run much longer between charges), whereas download times will be cut by a factor 57.

It’s about reinforcing and demonstrating the trust, the closeness of a relationship and enjoying the theater of showing it off. How do you greet someone? Does that change when you travel to India or even Sicily? Demonstrations to measure the other’s; acceptance, aggressiveness or to show respect and collegial friendliness vary from one culture to another despite centuries of american and European influence. Even the first offering of a hand signifies much about a relationship. How do you meet your best friend or your worst nightmare? And why do we not shake hands with people of lower class, like the janitor at school (D;Hauswart) or the waiter in the restaurant? When we see Micheline Calmy-Rey wear a scarf on her head in an Islamic land we wonder about the strange symbolism and may be troubled by her playing along, her belonging and representing us

But for a stab at a more reasonable number, we can look at a study conducted by University of Massachusetts researcher Robert Feldman, which demonstrates how reflexive the act of lying is for many people. In the study, which was published in the Journal of Basic and Applied Psychology, Feldman and his team of researchers asked two strangers to talk for 10 minutes. The conversations were recorded, and then each subject was asked to review the tape. Before looking at the footage, the subjects told researchers that they had been completely honest and accurate in their statements, but once the tape rolled, the subjects were amazed to discover all the little lies that came out in just 10 minutes. According to Feldman, 60 percent of the subjects lied at least once during the short conversation, and in that span of time, subjects told an average of 2.92 false things.

While the percentage of referral traffic may grow over time as more Google products are integrated with Google+ profiles, the lack of referral traffic suggests that content isn’t being shared on the service or users aren’t paying attention to content that is shared on Google+. However, sites may also see more Google search traffic as Google+ author profiles are linked to articles on the Web and search rankings may potentially increase over time.

Similar to Tumblr, Pinterest is an extremely visual social network. This has long been the point on which new technologies have been marketed, and digital technologies have only augmented a longstanding trend. But they have done so to such a degree that the change may be qualitative. Consider the ease with which we may now locate, purchase, and receive commodities that just a few years ago would have taken us considerably more time and trouble to acquire. The content of a book is only one of a multitude of possible examples, but it illustrates the point remarkably well. Consider what it would have taken to find a relatively rare or out of print work in 1990. What would it have taken to find the book? How much might it have cost to purchase? How long would it have taken to actually have the book in hand? Now consider the same scenario in 2012. Undoubtedly, this is important but in defining the specific role design might play in shaping future strategies, it is limited. It can be argued this framework is flawed as feedback is given in a language of human emotions, but how can ‘love’ in its uncontrollable nature be quantified? If love is a human-to-human relationship; can the assumption exist this is the same relationship for a human-object or human-brand? In further criticism of the ‘Lovemark’ through application to Lego, it poses several unanswered questions; If Lego had indeed not recovered, what happens to the love relationship when the brand is taken from the market, or collapses? Where the emotional meaning of a given sensory experience is stored is a matter of debate. We found that excitotoxic lesions of auditory, visual, or olfactory secondary sensory cortices impaired remote, but not recent, fear memories in rats. Amnesia was modality-specific and not due to an interference with sensory or emotional processes. In these sites, memory persistence was dependent on ongoing protein kinase Mζ activity and was associated with an increased activity of layers II–IV, thus suggesting a synaptic strengthening of corticocortical connections. Lesions of the same areas left intact the memory of sensory stimuli not associated with any emotional charge. We propose that secondary sensory cortices support memory storage and retrieval of sensory stimuli that have acquired a behavioral salience with the experience.
