    <dc:creator>gdw</dc:creator><description><![CDATA[This article reports on a new library for the ScalaCollider and Sound Processes computer music environments, a translation and adaptation of the patterns subsystem known from SuperCollider. From the perspective of electroacoustic music, patterns can easily be overlooked by reducing their meaning to the production of "notes" in the manner of "algorithmic composition". However, we show that they can be understood as a particular kind of programming language, considering them as a domain specific language for structures inspired by collection processing. Using examples from SuperCollider created by Ron Kuivila during an artistic research residency embedded in our project Algorithms that Matter, we show the challenges in translating this system from one programming language with a particular set of paradigms to another. If this process is studied as a reconfiguration of an algorithmic ensemble, the translated system produces new usage scenarios hitherto not possible.]]></description>

Use one upstream Pbind to supply the “base” events.
Use Pchain or the <> operator to compose this into a Ppar containing each of the “split” event streams you want to produce - in your case, one for MIDI and one for synths. These patterns will take the base events as an input, but can override values in them to e.g. change the \type to \midi, or change or add other arguments.
Use PtimeClutch to ensure I only pull one “base” event at any given time]]></description>

I've been researching about this and narrowed down by these criteria: (1) Modern and maintained (2) Open source (3) Multiplatform (4) Supports live coding (5) Not MIDI-only output (6) Text-based (7) Not Java (sorry JSyn :P)

Cadavre exquis is similar to the old parlour game consequences – in which players write in turn on a sheet of paper, fold to conceal what they have written, and pass it on to the next player – but adapted so that parts of the body are drawn instead.

It was invented in 1925 in Paris by the surrealists Yves Tanguy, Jacques Prévert, André Breton and Marcel Duchamp. The name ‘cadavre exquis’ was derived from a phrase that resulted when they first played the game, ‘le cadavre exquis boira le vin nouveau’ (‘the exquisite corpse will drink the new wine’).

Cadavre exquis as a drawing approach has been used by other artists since the surrealists notably the YBA artists Jake and Dinos Chapman.]]></description>
