Cumulative Updates for Windows 11 always fail to install - Microsoft Q&A

You may have seen a lot of suggestions to build a batch file to stop the update engine so we can cleanly delete the Windows\SoftwareDistribution and the Windows\System32\Catroot2 folders, or run a Dism line to clean up updates, though your update issue was exactly the same as mine, where all MS suggestions failed. By the way, MS is actually working on a fix, but the trick that is slowing this down is getting it to work on all system configurations.

A solution that WILL work on all systems is to do a SAFE and NONDESTRUCTIVE Restore of Windows 11 24H2, meaning that afterward, all of our apps, all of our settings, and all of our data will be fully intact. The only thing I have noticed is that apps that intercept windows processes, like the free Start Menu X app that restores a Windows 7-like start menu might not load, but we can fix that afterward by simply launching the app again to restore it.

The magic behind the trick we are about to perform is that Windows 11 had added a new Recovery Feature, called "Fix Problems using Windows Update". It is very easy to use, it is safe, and it will take up to an hour to complete. The GREAT thing about this is that what will happen is that a REPAIR version of Windows 11 will be installed that will actually contain all cumulative and security updates, including the update(s) that had previously refusing to install, already built into the Win11 update. This option will not try to install any Windows 11 version (hence, old) that may be already stored in a Recovery partition on the boot drive. It will instead download the LATEST, updated version of Windows 11 from their weekly rebuild.

To set minds more at ease, I just performed this same update on two more of my systems a couple of hours ago. It fixed the update issue and the system works EXACTLY as I had set them up before the update.

This fix will take about an hour and is hands-off, doing all that is needed on its own. To do this:

Go to Settings / System / Recovery.
Select the REINSTALL NOW button on the "Fix problems using Windows Update". This option also provides a note, stating "Reinstall your current version of Windows (your apps, files, and settings will be preserved)".

In 2022, AN contributor Juan Miró wrote about the disturbing trend taking hold in Texas of windowless student dorms proliferating at UT Austin. “From the moment you wake up, it is a very confusing and anxious experience,” one student told Miro. “While being in my windowless room, I have experienced symptoms of depression and fatigue quite often. It is very hard to get motivated, almost to the point where you feel trapped,” said another.

Such “disturbing” instances at UT Austin and UCSB have prompted new conversations about the precarious state of universities, and which basic dignities should be afforded to students. Submittals for the new student dormitory at UCSB are due on August 18, windows required.

During normal operation or in Safe mode, your computer may play "Fur Elise" or "It's a Small, Small World" seemingly at random. This is an indication sent to the PC speaker from the computer's BIOS that the CPU fan is failing or has failed, or that the power supply voltages have drifted out of tolerance. This is a design feature of a detection circuit and system BIOSes developed by Award/Unicore from 1997 on."

Problem
When they have a choice, people will always gravitate to those rooms which have light on two sides, and leave the rooms which are lit only from one side unused and empty.
Solution
Locate each room so that it has outdoor space outside it on at least two sides, and then place windows in these outdoor walls so that natural light falls into every room from more than one direction."

. . . once the building's major rooms are in position, we have to fix its actual shape: and this we do essentially with the position of the edge. The edge has got its rough position already from the overall form of the building - WINGS OF LIGHT (107), POSITIVE OUTDOOR SPACE (106), LONG THIN HOUSE (109), CASCADE OF ROOFS (116). This pattern now completes the work of WINGS OF LIGHT (107), by placing each individual room exactly where it needs to be to get the light. It forms the exact line of the building edge, according to the position of these individual rooms. The next pattern starts to shape the edge. "

The generic Synaptics drivers provide way more options than those supplied by the OEM (like for instance, the choice to use edge scrolling or two finger scrolling, or both, whereas OEM drivers usually force you to use either edge scrolling only, or two finger scrolling only). I personally like the momentum option, in which you can just flick your touchpad, and the pointer races in that direction. CleanHaven is there, on any system, to fix the text any way you need it, whether it's human or computer error. Paste in whatever text you've got, then pick from the drop-down menus and sections up top what you need fixed. CleanHaven knows how to patch up capitalization and spelling errors, sure, but can also sort items in alphabetical or numerical order, strip out excess spaces or tabs, quickly repair broken email or HTML copies, and otherwise do the things you'd grumble about while doing manually. There's also a find-and-replace function that's pretty powerful, and analysis options for seeing the frequency of words and phrases."

The right choice for you may be Linux, or it may be Mac, or it may be Windows. Choosing is a complex dance between hardware needs, price, aesthetic preferences, application requirements, technical competence, and even “what my friends use”. I think the best piece of advice that I can give, though, is this: if you are considering switching platform, don’t expect “the other side” to be the land of milk and honey forever. Every computing platform has its pros and cons, and once the honeymoon period is over, you’ll run into them."
