"qtalk is based on over a decade of building and cataloging approaches, patterns, anti-patterns, and best practices in network programming. My interest goes all the way back to high school when I first started playing with Winsock attempting to make massively multiplayer games. Then as a young web developer, pushing the limits of HTTP, discovering how to stream real-time to the browser years before Websocket was dreamed up. Then further abusing HTTP to model other protocols like DNS and IMAP. I pioneered distributed callbacks with webhooks, which got me working at early Twilio where I started going deep on scalable, highly-available messaging architectures. This led me into distributed systems: discovery, coordination, scheduling, etc. I've seen a lot.

I originally wanted to release qtalk with a paper describing all the significant choices to consider when building a stack like this: message framing, data formats, transports, security mechanisms, protocol flows, queuing, multiplexing, batching, layering, schemas, IDLs, symmetrical vs asymmetrical, stateful vs stateless, TCP vs UDP, etc. It would be a sort of guide for building your own stack. I'd still like to write that at some point, but this post will have to suffice for now.

"I think I may have figured out what the problem is (unfortunately this is going to get very technical).

The Chromecast is designed to only use SLAAC for IPv6 configuration and doesn't support DHCPv6. That means if IPv6 on your network is configured only to support managed Router Advertisements the router will reject the IPv6 traffic from the Chromecast, which will cause it to become disconnected until it times out and reverts back to IPv4, which takes about 5 minutes.

The only way I found to fix this on my pfSense router was to disable Router Advertisements on the interface my Wi-Fi is connected to. This seriously affects its ability to provide IPv6 service to that interface but it's the only way Google devices will work properly on Wi-Fi.

It boggles my mind that Google would program their device to completely disconnect from the wifi if IPv6 fails to self-configure properly and wait 5 minutes to reconnect over IPv4 which always works. This should be a very easy thing to fix in the code.

It might include your legal name, your age, and your credit card number. Disclosed data. This is what you post on your own pages: blog entries, photographs, messages, comments, and so on. Entrusted data. This is what you post on other people's pages. It's basically the same stuff as disclosed data, but the difference is that you don't have control over the data -- someone else does. Incidental data. Incidental data is data the other people post about you. Again, it's basically same same stuff as disclosed data, but the difference is that 1) you don't have control over it, and 2) you didn't create it in the first place. Behavioral data. This is data that the site collects about your habits by recording what you do and who you do it with."

The Copy Network Settings wizard will now start. Insert the USB flash drive, wait until it is detected and the Next button is no longer gray. The copying process will take only a few seconds. Their stroke of genius, which gave them their seemingly insuperable lead over the other search engines in ad monetization, was to understand that selling the top ad position to the highest bidder was actually leaving money on the table. Given that advertisers only pay for clicks, Google realized that if they could project the likely click-rate on an ad, they could sell top position to the best combination of price and click rate. A $5 cpc ad clicked on 3x as often as a $10 cpc ad will make $15. By instrumenting, measuring, and responding to the click rate, Google made ad auctions smarter - through harnessing implicit user contribution.
