I found another way.

I bought a datacenter GPU that doesn’t even have a normal PCIe connector, stuck it in my gaming PC with an adapter, and now I have 32GB of VRAM across two GPUs running a 27 billion parameter model at 32 tokens per second. The whole thing cost me £200.

One common element of the larger places where I've worked is that they tend to have a directory service of some sort that keeps track of who's an employee and who isn't. You can learn some interesting things by periodically dumping that list and then running comparisons against the previous dump.

A certain company had this rolled up into an internal service called "epitaphs" where an entry for a person would appear a day or two after they "disappeared from LDAP" - meaning, they left the company. Then other people who still worked there could add comments like "went back to school", "moved to Idaho to raise sheep", that kind of thing.

Another URL is https://meet.google.com/lookup/yourmeetingname. To avoid the invalid meeting code page you can use https://accounts.google.com/AccountChooser/signinchooser?continue=https://g.co/meet/yourmeetingname so that the user is prompted to login and choose the correct account. –

For presenting you can use g.co/present/yourmeetingname which is the same as meet.google.com/present/lookup/yourmeetingname "

Block chunks of make-time[1] on your calendar
(I start every week by figuring out the ~3 deep-work tasks I need to accomplish, and then schedule 1.5+ hour blocks to actually do them)
Identify your top 5 hard problems — have a list
(If you list them, you may background process on them!)
Exercise as thinking time
(Not necessarily exercise — but the point is to find some regular distraction free period and use it explicitly for thinking)
Create an empty work product
(When deep work needed but scary, just stub it out with rough or empty bullets, then when you’re in the right mood to dig in — the activation energy required is lower)

"Like everyone lately, [Matt] has been spending more time doing video conferencing lately. The problem is you naturally want to look at the screen, but that means you aren’t looking at the camera and, thus, you aren’t making eye contact. If you use a laptop, there is a relatively easy fix, although it isn’t particularly stylish. [Matt] built a black shroud out of foam board and put in two-way mirror. How does that help? Well, with the set up, you can put a very thin black web camera pointing up towards the mirror. Because the shroud is dark, you can see the screen through the mirror, but the camera sees you.

Where do you get a thin black web camera? You make one from an old laptop camera. They are tiny and easy to repurpose, a trick [Matt] has shared before. As a bonus, the post shows an easy way to take an LED strip and make a diffused light for lighting up your webcam call."

"To celebrate our wins at Expertcity (creator of GoToMyPC and GoToMeeting, acquired by Citrix), we installed a large iron bell in our tiny kitchen, which was comprised of a filthy microwave, an ancient espresso machine and a dorm-size refrigerator with a broken door handle.

The Bell rules were simple. Anyone could ring it at any time. However, if you rang the Bell without merit, you had to bring in breakfast for the entire company.

After you rang the Bell, you then sent an email to the entire company explaining the accomplishment that prompted you to ring it. Even as the company grew and we occupied various wings of a sizable building, the Bell remained an effective way to communicate our victories. It was fun to watch everyone’s reaction when the Bell was rung; people would rush to read their email in order to learn about the company’s latest accomplishment.

The Bell was not my idea. In fact, when we initially installed it, I was concerned that it might be viewed by the employees as a cheesy, faux motivational tool. These concerns were entirely unfounded. Over several years, the Bell created a genuine feeling of community and shared purpose, and proved to be an effective means of communicating and celebrating the company’s victories, both large and small.

For those interested, I wrote a bit more regarding tactics to build a healthy corp culture here: http://infochachkie.com/bangagong/"
