Both are true. Colorado school districts -- particularly rural ones -- are facing the overwhelming task of revamping their curriculum in light of the Common Core State Standards. Districts who want to work together are looking to the state to coordinate the effort, which sounds like a good idea to some (usually democrats) but smacks of "loss of local control" to others (usually republicans). Even if CDE wants to help it's unclear where they'll find the resources, and if they don't help it might be equally unclear where qualified and affordable "budding curriculum entrepreneurs" (to use Bob Schaffer's words) can be found.

Seeing so many political ads during the Olympics has been jarring -- just as I think, "Go USA, we're all in this together!" an attack ad reminds me that I'm supposed to be choosing a side of the USA to root for come November.

(Ad Summary: Claims Obama would strip work requirements from welfare and just hand out checks to those who wanted them. Article Summary: Obama wants to give more power to the states because they've asked if they can alter the welfare work requirements to meet their needs. Power to the states seems like something Republicans would want, but I suppose they'd be against it if they didn't think the states will toe the party line.)

The latest word from Twitter (@lynn_bartels's coverage is great) is that the fed-up gallery screamed and shouted "Shame on you!" at the legislators, leading to a clearing of the gallery.
