We learned from Steve Souders (and others) that selectors match from right to left, and that certain selectors were particularly arduous to match and should best be avoided. For example, we were told that descendant selectors were slow, especially when the right-most selector matched many elements on the page. All this was fantastic information when we had none, but as it turns out, times have changed. Thanks to some amazing work by Antti Koivisto there are many selectors we don’t need to worry about anymore.

As these are slow mobiles, we found that quite some tweaking had to be done. The reason was in most cases libraries using outdated ways to animate and position things on the screen. These old ways of working are needed to support legacy browsers and in a lot of cases are not needed as these legacy browsers will never see the apps in the first place.]]></description>

In order for a website to load cleanly, all CSS needed for rendering that page layout must be referenced in the head of a document. This is because stylesheets loaded in this way will block page rendering until they are loaded and ready to apply.
