I haven’t read the papers; I may be wrong." -- Wow, that "hyper-" prefix carries a lot of water here.  FWIW, I think this kind of argument is itself subtly wrong; you might as well argue that Deep Blue "set real machine understanding" of chess back a generation.  I think I usually find people who want to describe "understanding" qualitatively, rather than functionally, to be somewhat obtuse -- and I find it somewhat awesome that teams of people working at a large company seem to be able to grant me some measure of insight into Turing Tests and "intelligence." ]]></description>
