    <dc:creator>Vaguery</dc:creator><description><![CDATA[For an educational purpose we develop the Python package AutoFreeFem which generates all ingredients for shape optimization with non-linear multi-physics in FreeFEM++ and also outputs the expressions for use in LaTex. As an input, the objective function and the weak form of the problem have to be specified only once. This ensures consistency between the simulation code and its documentation. In particular, AutoFreeFem provides the linearization of the state equation, the adjoint problem, the shape derivative, as well as a basic implementation of the level-set based mesh evolution method for shape optimization. For the computation of shape derivatives we utilize the mathematical Lagrangian approach for differentiating PDE-constrained shape functions. Differentiation is done symbolically using Sympy. In numerical experiments we verify the accuracy of the computed derivatives. Finally, we showcase the capabilities of AutoFreeFem by considering shape optimization of a non-linear diffusion problem, linear and non-linear elasticity problems, a thermo-elasticity problem and a fluid-structure interaction problem.

    <title>[2304.10521] A class of mesh-free algorithms for some problems arising in finance and machine learning</title>

    <dc:creator>Vaguery</dc:creator><description><![CDATA[We introduce a numerical methodology, referred to as the transport-based mesh-free method, which allows us to deal with continuous, discrete, or statistical models in the same unified framework, and leads us to a broad class of numerical algorithms recently implemented in a Python library (namely, CodPy). Specifically, we propose a mesh-free discretization technique based on the theory of reproducing kernels and the theory of transport mappings, in a way that is reminiscent of Lagrangian methods in computational fluid dynamics. We introduce kernel-based discretizations of a variety of differential and discrete operators (gradient, divergence, Laplacian, Leray projection, extrapolation, interpolation, polar factorization). The proposed algorithms are nonlinear in nature and enjoy quantitative error estimates based on the notion of discrepancy error, which allows one to evaluate the relevance and accuracy of, both, the given data and the numerical solutions. Our strategy is relevant when a large number of degrees of freedom are present as is the case in mathematical finance and machine learning. We consider the Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov system (relevant for problems arising in finance and material dynamics) and a class of neural networks based on support vector machines.

It includes traditional algorithmic solutions as well as recent advanced neural approaches to tackle various problems in string alignment, distance measurement, lexical and semantic search, and similarity analysis -- along with several helpful visualization tools and metrics to facilitate the interpretation and analysis of these methods. Notable algorithms featured in the library include the Smith-Waterman algorithm for pairwise local alignment, the Hirschberg algorithm for global alignment, the Wagner-Fisher algorithm for edit distance, BARTScore and BERTScore for similarity analysis, the Knuth-Morris-Pratt algorithm for lexical search, and Faiss for semantic search. Besides, it wraps existing efficient and widely-used implementations of certain frameworks and metrics, such as sacreBLEU and ROUGE, whenever it is appropriate and suitable. Overall, the library aims to provide extensive coverage and increased flexibility in comparison to existing libraries for strings. It can be used for many downstream applications, tasks, and problems in natural-language processing, bioinformatics, and computational social sciences. It provides a large set of purely math & geometry oriented data types, a polymorphic, largely protocol based API to transform/convert types and various ways to create interactive visualizations in SVG, WebGL, OpenGL, both in the browser and in desktop environments.

Embracing Clojure’s approach of data transformations, the library’s core philosophy is based on a functional approach to generative design tasks with hundreds of hours spent on refining & optimizing the core API for both Clojure & Clojurescript.

Unlike most other open source projects, this project has been developed in a literate programming style and has been in active, regular development since late 2011, currently in its 4th iteration/rewrite cycle.

    <dc:creator>Vaguery</dc:creator><description><![CDATA[Slug is a software library that has become the professional standard for rendering high-quality, resolution-independent text and vector graphics in 3D applications on the GPU. It can be used for drawing graphical user interfaces, rendering heads-up displays, showing debugging information, and placing text inside a 3D world or virtual environment.

Slug renders shapes on the GPU directly from outline data composed of quadratic Bézier curves to produce crisp text at any scale or from any perspective. There are no precomputed texture images or signed distance fields. Slug uses a breakthrough mathematical algorithm that we invented to achieve perfect robustness with high performance, and it is the only existing GPU method that renders properly antialiased glyphs with no artifacts under both magnification and minification.

Slug also provides text layout services that calculate the positions of the glyphs that are drawn for a given string of Unicode characters. In addition to basic bounding box and advance width calculations, it can perform kerning, ligature replacement, combining diacritical mark placement, character composition, and alternate substitution. More high-level information is available on the Slug fact sheet.

Although Slug was originally designed only to render text, it can now draw arbitrary vector graphics using the same technology. Complex diagrams and vector drawings can be rendered at blazingly fast speeds directly on the GPU with total resolution independence.

The entities contend for resources, which can be Facilities (services that are requested by entities; supports FIFO, LIFO with preemption and Processor Sharing service disciplines), Buffers (resources that can store finite amount of tokens) and Stores (resources that can store JavaScript objects).
The entities communicate by waiting on Events or by sending Messages.
Statistics recording and analysis is provided by Data Series Statistics (collection of discrete, time-independent observations), Time Series Statistics (collection of discrete, time-dependent observations) and Population Statistics (the behavior of population growth and decline).

Originally featuring stories about the American frontier and the West, cowboys eventually gave way to detectives, like Nick Carter, and boy adventurers and entrepreneurs, like Frank Reade Jr. This site contains materials from two major dime novel collections in Rare Books and Special Collections at Northern Illinois University, the Albert Johannsen and Edward T. LeBlanc Collections. It also hosts the Johannsen Project, a collaboration between NIU and Villanova University, generously supported by a Digitizing Hidden Collections grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR). I assumed it would be like CoffeeScript, you pretty much know the JavaScript you are generating, but now you get to type less. With ClojureScript there’s a gap between the code I write and the code that’s generated, and this gap provides powerful leverage.

    <dc:creator>Vaguery</dc:creator><description><![CDATA[Genetic Programming, a kind of evolutionary computation and machine learning algorithm, is shown to benefit significantly from the application of vectorized data and the TensorFlow numerical computation library on both CPU and GPU architectures. The open source, Python Karoo GP is employed for a series of 190 tests across 6 platforms, with real-world datasets ranging from 18 to 5.5M data points. This body of tests demonstrates that datasets measured in tens and hundreds of data points see 2-15x improvement when moving from the scalar/SymPy configuration to the vector/TensorFlow configuration, with a single core performing on par or better than multiple CPU cores and GPUs. A dataset composed of 90,000 data points demonstrates a single vector/TensorFlow CPU core performing 875x better than 40 scalar/Sympy CPU cores. And a dataset containing 5.5M data points sees GPU configurations out-performing CPU configurations on average by 1.3x.
