It provides a large set of purely math & geometry oriented data types, a polymorphic, largely protocol based API to transform/convert types and various ways to create interactive visualizations in SVG, WebGL, OpenGL, both in the browser and in desktop environments.

Embracing Clojure’s approach of data transformations, the library’s core philosophy is based on a functional approach to generative design tasks with hundreds of hours spent on refining & optimizing the core API for both Clojure & Clojurescript.

Unlike most other open source projects, this project has been developed in a literate programming style and has been in active, regular development since late 2011, currently in its 4th iteration/rewrite cycle.

It has around 300 operations covering arithmetic, histograms, convolution, morphological operations, frequency filtering, colour, resampling, statistics and others. It supports a large range of numeric formats, from 8-bit int to 128-bit complex. Images can have any number of bands. It supports a good range of image formats, including JPEG, TIFF, PNG, WebP, FITS, Matlab, OpenEXR, PDF, SVG, HDR, PPM, CSV, GIF, Analyze, NIfTI, DeepZoom, and OpenSlide. It can also load images via ImageMagick or GraphicsMagick, letting it load formats like DICOM.

Even for clean line drawings, modern algorithms often fail to faithfully vectorize junctions, or points at which curves meet; this produces vector drawings with incorrect connectivity. This subtle issue undermines the practical application of vectorization tools and accounts for hesitance among artists and engineers to use automatic vectorization software. To address this issue, we propose a novel image vectorization method based on state-of-the-art mathematical algorithms for frame field processing. Our algorithm is tailored specifically to disambiguate junctions without sacrificing quality.]]></description>

    <dc:creator>Vaguery</dc:creator><description><![CDATA[This paper tackles a challenging 2D collage generation problem, focusing on shapes: we aim to fill a given region by packing irregular and reasonably-sized shapes with minimized gaps and overlaps. To achieve this nontrivial problem, we first have to analyze the boundary of individual shapes and then couple the shapes with partially-matched boundary to reduce gaps and overlaps in the collages. Second, the search space in identifying a good coupling of shapes is highly enormous, since arranging a shape in a collage involves a position, an orientation, and a scale factor. Yet, this matching step needs to be performed for every single shape when we pack it into a collage. Existing shape descriptors are simply infeasible for computation in a reasonable amount of time. To overcome this, we present a brand new, scale- and rotation-invariant 2D shape descriptor, namely pyramid of arclength descriptor (PAD). Its formulation is locally supported, scalable, and yet simple to construct and compute. These properties make PAD efficient for performing the partial-shape matching. Hence, we can prune away most search space with simple calculation, and efficiently identify candidate shapes. We evaluate our method using a large variety of shapes with different types and contours. Convincing collage results in terms of visual quality and time performance are obtained.

The proposed technique builds upon previous research in exposure fusion and expands it to deal with the limited Temporal Dynamic Range of existing sensors and camera technologies. In particular, temporal image fusion enables the rendering of long-exposure effects on full frame-rate video, as well as the generation of arbitrarily long exposures from a sequence of images of the same scene taken over time. We explore the problem of temporal under-exposure, and show how it can be addressed by selectively enhancing dynamic structure. Finally, we show that the use of temporal image fusion together with content-selective image filters can produce a range of striking visual effects on a given input sequence.

    <dc:creator>Vaguery</dc:creator><description><![CDATA[In this paper the use of Random Sprays Retinex (RSR) algorithm for global illumination estimation is proposed and its feasibility tested. Like other algorithms based on the Retinex model, RSR also provides local illumination estimation and brightness adjustment for each pixel and it is faster than other path-wise Retinex algorithms. As the assumption of the uniform illumination holds in many cases, it should be possible to use the mean of local illumination estimations of RSR as a global illumination estimation for images with (assumed) uniform illumination allowing also the accuracy to be easily measured. Therefore we propose a method for estimating global illumination estimation based on local RSR results. To our best knowledge this is the first time that RSR algorithm is used to obtain global illumination estimation. For our tests we use a publicly available color constancy image database for testing. The results are presented and discussed and it turns out that the proposed method outperforms many existing unsupervised color constancy algorithms. The source code is available at this http URL

    <dc:creator>Vaguery</dc:creator><description><![CDATA["To sum up, I use R with Rails successfully and very happily, but under controlled circumstances and not in a public-facing or uptime-crucial situation. I don’t have data on speed or memory usage, other than to say that I regularly run reports with dozens or even hundreds of different images and graphics rendering is not the most time consuming part of the task. What matters most to me is that I can easily prototype in R, and my library of graph types can be used in any environment that supports R. I am not locking myself in to a Rails-only or Ruby-only package. Also, although I haven’t even touched on it here, my Rails and Ruby applications have access to the rest of R’s extensive statistical and mathematical functionality and a huge package library."
