There was always improvement, but they all had the same problem: they'd run great for a while, but after 6-12 months a random software update (just running apt-get) would break the system in a significant way: usually xwindows, but maybe audio, maybe network. And I'd generally be able to fix it, but only after losing an evening to frustrating troubleshooting.
