ModestImage extends the matplotlib AxesImage class, and avoids unnecessary calculation and memory when rendering large images (where most image pixels aren't visible on the screen). It has the following benefits over AxesImage:

    Draw time is (roughly) independent of image size
    Large numpy.memmap arrays can be visualized, without making an in-memory copy of the entire array. This enables visualization of images too large to fit in memory.]]></description>

The user can adjust all parameters of the cubehelix algorithm. This enables much greater flexibility in choosing color maps, while (by default) ensuring the color map scales in brightness from black to white.

A few simple example flavors of cubehelix:

    Default color map settings produce the standard "cubehelix": cubehelix.cmap()
    Create color map in only blues: cubehelix.cmap(rot=0, start=0)
    Create reverse (white to black) backwards through the rainbow once: cubehelix.cmap(rot=1, reverse=True)
    Similar to Matteo Niccoli’s perceptual rainbow: cubehelix.cmap(startHue=240,endHue=-300,minSat=1,maxSat=2.5,minLight=.3,maxLight=.8,gamma=.9)

The timer displays additionally some statistics of the counting precision and discards invalid or missing keystrokes for making the counts as independened as possible of input errors. This is based on the time span between the first two strokes, these should be resonably accurate (within ± 20 % of the true average). From then on its perfectly OK to pause and resume the count, the program returns a visual feedback for the invalid strokes.

The statistical foundation of the precision is thorough but assumes that the music's tempo remains constant, which is not always the case over the full length of a few pieces. ]]></description>

    <dc:creator>Knusper2000</dc:creator><description><![CDATA[We’re working on a new project in FYS4460 about percolation. In the introduction of this project, we are given a few commands to help us demonstrate a few properties of percolation clusters using MATLAB.

As the Python-fan I am, I of course had to see if I could find equivalent commands in Python, and thankfully that was quite easy. Below I will summarize the commands that will generate a random matrix of filled and unfilled areas, label each cluster in this matrix and calculate the area of each such cluster. Finally, we’ll draw a bounding box around the largest cluster.]]></description>

It was presented by Richard Stallman at the Libre Planet Conference in Cambridge, MA. I cannot think of someone more deserved of such a prestigious recognition. Fernando started the IPython project back in 2001 as a side project, and it has grown in the background of the plethora of other things Fernando has done in his academic life. Major development started on IPython in 2008 and there has been no looking back. Fernando wrote about the history of IPython in 2012.]]></description>
